Yes, they are coming for us.
Workers need to have one another’s backs because no one else will. Neither the broader labor movement nor the Democratic party are prepared to meet the urgency of this moment. So it’s going to fall upon the rest of us to mount a real resistance against Trump’s authoritarian takeover.
We’re going to have to get our hands dirty. I don’t care if you have a good, well-paying union job and you are in the middle class now—if you see a worker being dragged out of his workplace regardless of how skilled the job and potentially taken to another country, you should be ready to be there for that worker. When I.C.E. shows up, gather around and shame them into leaving. It has worked in other places.
America is sleep walking into authoritarianism, and if there’s anyone out there who is a member of a labor union that is safe—at this point— and doesn’t think this applies to them. Understand that they just haven’t gotten to you yet.
They’re coming for all of us. There are groups whose only goal is to take what makes us strong—our ability to stand together as one. They will cause chaos by turning our differences into divisions. We see these ideas baked into efforts like Project 2025, and advanced by groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council and the Fraser Institute.
All union members need to know about these people and their destructive plans for workers. Their only goal is to destroy the labor unions and all the protections and retirement benefits that unions provide for workers.
This isn’t about ‘left’ or ‘right’, all workers are going to be screwed if they get their way. This is about right and wrong—and they are wrong for workers.
The AFL is with Senator Bernie Sanders and it is the people’s only chance to push back against Elon Musk, who wants to dismantle our government. Musk family is said to have left South Africa because they could no longer exploit The native/black Africans so he bought Trump and now he’s laying waste to America in the name of progress. With Senator Sanders’ leadership and backing of all labor unions, we could put together the whole of 99 percent of the people and beat back the 2 percent destroying we what once had and stood for while also saving Social Security, healthcare for all, elder care, child care, while working on the climate change crisis (we are running out of time, as the weather is showing us). The workers need to go big, such as a four-day work week like other countries have; universal basic income (UBI) and Medicare for all for unhoused people, which would help get them off the streets.
