The United Auto Workers union is kicking serious ass. All unions should look at what is working for them and what has not. If they are winning for their people, labor needs to do big things that will change the lives of their members for the long term, such as child care and a labor school, where members and families can learn how to make their lives better, and how to run strikes, work stoppages, electing labor people to local, state and federal government offices.
We are in a fight for our existence and all union members must embrace Sun Tzu's, "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
We need a trained Army. This way we can get the court system back to where they support the laws fairly when lawsuits involve labor and our families instead of the GOP corporations. The 1 percent have the money and at this time, the government, but we can change the government and we can stop making them more money by making them pay their taxes at a reasonable rate reflective of their wealth and make them pay their employees more.
UAW’s Shawn Fain has set May Day 2028 as the day that could transform labor and the world most. UAW contracts expire at midnight on April 30, 2028. This is what all labor contracts should aspire to. This is real labor power for without workers, the world comes to a stop.
All labor leaders should read a fictional story about the power of workers called, “The Iron Heel” by Jack London. The story outlines what could and has happened while also explaining how to prepare for a long strike.
There are three phases of a general strike and unions must plan for one. Those three phases are: 1. general strike in an industry 2. general strike in a community 3. general national strike We need to move away from being on the defensive and move toward a good offensive. The American Federal of Labor (AFL) could not have held a general strike if it wanted to because they had thousands of different contracts that expired at different times of the year. This was done deliberately so that there is no consolidation of power for a general strike. Also, nowadays, there is no law agency that will support labor, except the National Labor Relations Board (NLBR), which has been under attack and in decline for years. This leaves the burden of change up to unions, and unless unions work together, little will change. We essentially have a combination of job trusts, which are not as strong as contracts, and the courts can break easily because the NLBR will be further weakened and essentially elim...
